This book was phenomenal <3
As I haven’t lived under a rock, I do know the story of Frankenstein, but the novel is so much more beautiful than any adaptation I’ve interacted with. The dual narration, different pov’s from letters, ALL OF IT beautiful!!
It was absurd and horrific, set in a stunning location. Without saying too much at all, every character is so complex in their morals. Especially the journey that both Frankenstein and the Creature go on – together and apart.
The introduction and appendixes for this novel perfectly put me in Shelley’s shoes, understanding the context of her life that was submerged in this novel. I’m so glad I chose to read the 1818 text (at least, first) as it feels so raw in a beautiful sense, especially with the fatherly absence and humanity at it core.
I thought this would be a perfect spooky read, but honestly it’s more of a winter novel – with its harsh themes and cold landscapes. Such a shame I’ll have to read it again!!!
