Oh yes, these reviews are getting nerdy, and I absolutely don’t and won’t apologise.
First of Ncuti’s proper stories to grasp our screens (I felt as if the others were to introduce new viewers, so I won’t count those) was a beautiful commentary on our world. For those saying ‘ugh Doctor Who has gotten so #woke’ I say: DUH! Have you not been here for the last decades of all these political commentaries. I mean, did any of you meet Harriet Jones and her storyline?

Anyway, back to the episode. I loved the real-world integration of people ‘buying stars’ – it very much is a real thing and viewed as a scam. Belinda is fantastic, as if Martha Jones and Amy Pond had a baby and created her. The Doctor and Nurse dynamic is perfect and gives her character so much to stand for away from the Doctor himself.
I love how the only way to get people to stop something taking over robots, killing people and completely destroying the world is to humanise it. The crazy-ex boyfriend storyline is hilarious and oddly true, men do love a good old chase – especially if it involves a video game.
Overall, perfection introduction to what Doctor Who truly is. ‘Woke’ if you must put it like that, as well as hilarious and gut-wrenching.
