This novel is a beautiful mix of the magical and history, set in late 16th century Madrid, Spain. Bardugo creates an incredibly well written story filled with characters that are so thought through and a story that keeps grasping and surprising you at every corner.
Each character held their own moral code and did so well, blurring and complicating the lines between good and evil. Luzia and Santángel’s love journey was so interesting to read, although I’m not sure I could stop imagining him like Vladislaus Straud from Sims 4!!!
It was hard to rate this book, as it enjoyed it thoroughly, especially as I got later in the novel – BUT, Bardugo does disappoint me a little in her repetition. To sum it up, I’ve never seen a writer be so obsessed with the rule of three… It took me out of the book every now and then, which was very disappointing for an otherwise strong novel.
Overall, this book was incredible and inspired me greatly. A little more editing and this would be 5 ⭐️ and more if I could!!!
