Disappointing miracle of beautiful and impressive knowledge…
To start off this review, I truly believe this novel is absolutely fascinating and insanely impressive, Kuang is perhaps one of the smartest women I have ever encountered. Her education and passion seeps through the page and you can feel it as you turn every page. Phenomenal!!
I say this book is disappointing because the story itself wasn’t as impressive as the history behind it all. I feel it was stretched out, a book that almost could’ve been split into two. There is a very long journey that takes place – one of the longest slow-burning stories I have read. The story read almost as a biography rather than a fictional plot, of a person’s life that I wasn’t all that interested in.
My opinion of this book feels controversial as it has been vastly well received by most other people, so perhaps it’s just me! I kept being told to wait for the Huge twist towards the end of the novel, which was my favourite part by miles! It just sucked that it took me hundreds of pages and some weird time jumps to reach it.
